ON Varsity Football: Season Rewind
Looking back at this season you can’t help but to wish for Friday night games all year long. Eagles football sure didn’t disappoint this year and held up an impressive record. The season started with a big 56-0 win against Shawnee Mission South on September 3rd, and this winning streak would stand for three weeks. Although the Eagles lost to Olathe West on September 24th, they made a huge comeback just seven days later, winning 54-16 to Olathe South. The comeback game was extra thrilling due to being the Homecoming game and against one of Olathe North’s biggest rivals.
Olathe North games are known for their loud and exciting student section. Having been to every game this season Senior Melena Zorn has a lot of experience cheering on the eagles.
“I will miss the fun energy from the student section and all the memories made this season watching the eagles win!” Zorn said.
Over the next three weeks, the Eagles secured another two wins, one against Shawnee Mission South and another against Olathe Northwest. After fighting for eight weeks it was now time for the Olathe North football team to prepare for playoffs. One of the most important times of the year for North athletics. The team wins and the crowd becomes elated, knowing they get to experience another week of football season, but if they lose it is all over. Going into the playoffs with a 6-2 record the odds were in the Eagle’s favor. Week one was routine, another game against Olathe Northwest. Olathe North knew they could handle this one and came out on top with a 35-13 win. The victory meant another week and another game to get ready for.
Week 9 came and North was scheduled to play Olathe East on their home field, Olathe District Activity Center. Yet again winning with an impressive score of 42-14.
Week 10 was a shaky one for the eagles, their hardest competition yet was before them. On Friday, November 12th the Eagles played against Blue Valley North West who held a record of 9-1. Despite giving their all, the eagles football team was not able to conquer them. Although their season came to an end that night, it is widely agreed that this season will be one many remember.
