The class of 2025 is experiencing their last-firsts of their high school career. Seniors have had the opportunity to go to their last-first football game, participate in Senior Sunrise, and begin exploring the college admission and application process.
The seniors described this year as being scary knowing they will graduate soon. Senior Nick Brady, a senior who is 2 years above the grade he should be in, has used this year to guide others and incoming underclassmen navigating high school.
“It feels great knowing I can start my career at the University of Kansas early, but it is nerve wracking. It’s also hard to believe I’m already mentoring underclassmen,” Brady said.
As a senior, the last year can be stressful. There are several senior activities such as Senior Skip Day, Senior Sunrise.
“It feels good to know that I’m graduating, but I’m trying to cherish all the high school memories. After going to Senior Sunrise, I realized I really am a senior,” Jocelyn Hunt (12) said. “In all honesty I’m scared but I’m ready to experience the days seniors get to but underclassmen don’t.”
College applications are a big part of the senior experience . This is the time that students begin to find careers/colleges that suit them best. Deciding from colleges as close as Johnson County Community college all the way to the University of Los Angeles.
Moving into a large division one school can be seen as difficult but with the help of others it can become a much easier task.
“I’m planning on going to the University of Colorado Boulder to study astrophysics. If I did not have the help of Mrs. Cavanaugh, I would have a massive list of issues every year,” Atticus Harrold (12) said.
Students are nervous about experiencing their last-firsts. Senior Wyatt Flood talks about his experience with his final football season as an eagle.
“I don’t look at it as my last season ever. I look at it as a chance to improve for my future career,” Flood said. “I’m excited to kick this year off and move onto college football, I hope the other seniors enjoy the last high school season.”
Football themes are a large part of Friday Night Lights. Seniors are expected to go all out with their FNL outfits.
“My favorite theme would be Halloween out. We always dance at halftime and we go all out with our costumes. I also love when the student section throws around a pumpkin until it breaks on someone in the stands,” Alexa Frazier (12) said.
