The School Library 6/10
The Olathe North school library is a very convenient place to work. If you have some last minute cramming to do for a test, or if you need to put some finishing touches on a project this is the place for you. The library is open before and after school so it is an easy location since you don’t have to go out of the way to get there. By studying in the school library you are in close proximity to any classes that you might need to get to quickly or teachers to ask for help. However I have docked points due to a lack of aesthetic surroundings. It has very bland decorations that are not very inviting. Thankfully the library will be undergoing renovations later this year and receiving some much needed updates. However, this means that the school library will not be available for part of this year which led me to dock more points from the total.
The Downtown Public Library 10/10
Public libraries are more than just big buildings with books inside, they can be one of the best places to go to work with friends or to study on your own. The one in downtown Olathe has multiple levels with conference rooms and study rooms available and tucked-away tables and reading nooks, making it a great place to cozy up and knock out some homework. I have used the downtown library many times, especially for group projects or study groups due to its central location and its proximity to Olathe North. Plus the coffee shop on the first floor makes it super easy to grab a snack or a drink anytime during a visit.
Courtyards 4/10
The courtyards of Olathe North High School are a great place to stop for lunch or to chat before school, but if you’re thinking about making it your next homework spot, think again. The outside location is nice but not the ideal place to study since it gets muddy and windy which can blow away papers and destroy shoes. If you need to do anything by hand all the picnic tables have holes in them creating a less than ideal surface to work on. The courtyards are closed often and the availability can vary with each season so it’s not a place you can count on. I gave it extra points for the animals and the outdoor location but this is a study space that should remain a lunch-only location.
Lenexa Public Market 8/10
The Lenexa Public Market might be a bit longer of a drive, but it’s worth it. Besides the wonderful local restaurants and pop-ups inside, it’s the perfect place to gather with a group. They have outdoor seating with fire pits and plenty of tables inside. If you’re someone who likes to work with some background noise this is the place for you. It’s always busy inside but unless it’s a Friday evening it isn’t overwhelming. Bonus, they have a public library next door in case you need a quieter place to work or want to use the resources provided by the library.
