DS Political Science Sophomore Garyn Watts has co-authored an OpEd with Scarlett Antonides (Belton High School) as part of their work with the American Public Square’s Civic Education Initiative. This initiative brings 85 students from around the Kansas City metro together to put their learning into action by creating an American Public Square program. The group chooses their focus each year and this year the focus was on immigration in the United States and the US Department of Homeland Security’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement, agency, also known as ICE, and federal immigration enforcement.
The OpEd was published by The Kansas City Start, and can be found here: Fear of ICE trickles down to Kansas City high schools. Who’s next?
